Welcome to Purchase

 

Purchase is a hamlet of the town of Harrison. Its name is derived from “Harrison’s Purchase”, for Harrison could have as much land as he could ride in one day. Purchase is home to the State University of New York at Purchase, Manhattanville College and the Westchester County Airport.

There are many historic sites located in Purchase. The hamlet is well known as an affluent area in Westchester and one of the richest in the country. Because of the exclusive environment, many celebrities are attracted to this prestigious area.

Manhattanville College is a private liberal arts college and satellite campus of Fordham University. The College’s Reid Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. There’s also a satellite campus of Long Island University. 

Purchase College, SUNY, offers a unique education that combines programs in the arts with conservatory programs. Its glittering weekend performing arts schedule in dance, theatre and music features world-famous performers. SUNY produces two operas each year. Also at SUNY Purchase, the Neuberger Art Museum’s exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Major corporations, such as MasterCard and Pepsico are headquartered in Purchase. 

Across the street from SUNY Purchase, Pepsico has a public sculpture garden featuring works by Calder, Rodin, Moore, Giacometti and Pomodoro. 

The Purchase School is the local K-5 elementary school, which is part of the Harrison Central School District.

Keio University also operates a high school named Keio Academy of New York. 

Purchase is known for the Purchase Community House, home of the Purchase Day Camp. It runs after-school activities during the rest of the year. On the Purchase Community House property, there are four pools and numerous playing fields.
