Mamaroneck, with its easy access to highways, airports and Metro North train service to New York City and Stamford, is a prime suburban residential community.
The Town of Mamaroneck has a total area of 14.0 square miles, of which 6.6 square miles are land and 7.4 square miles are water. It's divided into four parts: the Village of Larchmont, an unincorporated area, and the Village of Mamaroneck, the rest of that village being in the town of Rye. The majority of the town's land area is not within either village, constituting an unincorporated area, although a majority of the population lives within the villages.
Along six miles of picturesque shoreline, Mamaroneck boasts tennis, yacht and golf clubs, private beaches and wonderful local restaurants. The Emelin Theatre for Performing Arts, next to the Mamaroneck Free Library, offers a wide range of performances, including jazz and classical concerts, drama and dance.
The Winged Foot Golf Club has been host to a number of professional tournaments.
The school district consists of four neighborhood elementary schools, a middle school and a high school serving Larchmont & Mamaroneck. From the earliest years of elementary school up through high school, an emphasis is placed on the arts. The community as a whole cares deeply about the quality of its schools. Parents are involved and supportive.
Mamaroneck has one of the longest running middle school and high school Mandarin programs in the country. A very large percentage of its students who study Mandarin continue with Chinese in college and go on to live in China for some period of time during their adult lives. Mamaroneck's High School varsity baseball and field hockey teams have won State Championships. Nearly all of its athletic teams are honored each year with Student-Athlete awards for maintaining high grade point averages. Additionally, the high school houses nearly 50 other team sports and more than 80 clubs.
Mamaroneck is transforming the way it thinks about teaching and learning. Expansion of the successful Earth Science iPad pilot program, a 1:1 iPad initiative for delivering instruction to all students across all subjects in grades 8 and 9, will launch this year. Another exciting new initiative is a pilot dual-language English-Spanish Kindergarten program.
The town is home to Walter's Hot Dog Stand, a Westchester County landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mamaroneck offers a standard of living that's second to none and its first rate amenities place it firmly among the best destinations in New York.
